The angel proclaims the good news of Jesus’ birth to the shepherds in the fields.
Joseph, Mary, and the shepherds rejoice in the Holy Child.

MEMORIAL FOR ALICE PATRICIA MOORE (April 4, 1933 – Sept. 14, 2022), Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022
Deputy Town of Hempstead Supervisor Dorothy L. Goosby delivered the first talk at the 10 a.m. period of personal reflections. She left a commendatory citation to be placed with the display of Pat’s citations and awards that was set up in Regan Hall.
Hempstead Village Trustee Clariona Griffith and Hempstead Village Mayor Waylyn Hobbs, Jr. spoke of Pat’s many years providing support and legal counsel for the vilage government and the Hempstead Chamber of Commerce. They also presented a commendatory citation.
Former Hempstead Mayor and lifelong village activist Don Ryan recalled Pat’s wit. “Whenever she encountered me,” Ryan said, “she’d say, ‘Oh, the people you run into when you don’t have a gun.'”
Brother Bernard Delcourt of Holy Cross Monastery in West Park, NY, told of Pat’s participation in monastery activities and of her steady spirituality.
David Williams, second from left, provided 24-hour care for Pat during the last years of her life. Behind him stood neighbor Nino Perdomo, with wife Charmaine, caring neighbors for more than 20 years. In the front pew stood Virginia “Ginny” Harding and James “Jim” Harding. Jim was Pat’s law firm partner and colleague for nearly 50 years.
Organist Kevin Gray led the St. George’s choir, augmented by members of St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church. The steel pan was played earlier by St. George’s congregation member Abeni Tucker, recalling Pat’s participation in the steel band led by Fr. Allister Rawlins over a decade before.
Pat’s cousins from Newfoundland and Ontario flew down to join the memorial service: Mark Vaughan-Jackson and his sister Sarah Vaughan-Jackson stood at either side of their father, Julian Vaughan-Jackson.
Paul Lalljee of St. George’s read the Old Testament and led the congregation in the reading of Psalm 139:1-12.
Neville McFarland, Esq., Lay Readers Chair at St. John the Evangelist in Lynbrook, read Revelation 21:2-7.
The participants at the memorial service demonstrated the diversity and reach of Pat’s commitment to her village and beyond.
Christina Lightbourne, warden at St. John the Evangelist, gave her personal reflections on Pat at both the 10 a.m. hour and the 11 a.m. service, reminding listenrs of Pat’s dedication to encouraging people to vote in elections as well as to live out a spiritual life.
Ena Taylor, a pillar of St. George’s for over four decades, also spoke at both the 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. services.
James Harding described Pat’s unfailing integrity and determination to fight for equality, politically and in her legal practice, across nearly five decades.
Rev. Ajung Sojwal, rector of St. George’s, read out the Gospel, John 6:37-40: “Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and anyone who comes to me I will never drive away …”
Brother Aidan Owen of Holy Cross Monastery in West Park, NY, detailed the ways in which Pat lived out her spiritual life, drawing renewal from the monastery and living out the scriptures in her daily life.
Rosalind Whitehall of St. George’s led the Prayers of the People.
Mark Vaughan-Jackson spoke for Pat’s cousins in Canada and England as he described Pat’s frequent visits to family members, calling Pat “my favorite grand-cousin.” He honored Pat’s literary knowledge by reading a beautiful poem that included the lines, “With the Lord of the dance we shall form a ring / and there in love’s pavilion / hand in hand we shall say Amen / and we shall dance and we shall sing / with Love, with Love for companion.”
Fr. Bernard, Rev. Ajung, and Br. Aidan concelebrated communion.
Reine Bethany, St. George’s warden, read Pat’s obituary, which Bethany had written and published in the Hempstead Beacon on Sept. 22.
Rev. Ajung commended Pat’s spirit to God, reading the words over the urn containing Pat’s cremains.
As the choir ended the service by singing “Lord of the Dance,” congregation members headed toward Regan Hall for the repast, which was provided by both St. George’s and St. John the Evangelist.
Antonio Kelley, a well-known videographer in Hempstead and Freeport, produced a photo montage with music that was played during the repast.
Eileen Benes, a secretary of many years for Harding and Moore, accompanied Ginny and Jim Harding to the memorial event.
Mark, Sarah, and Julian Vaughan-Jackson became acquainted with Christina Lightbourne and many of Pat’s friends from the Hempstead area.
