To improve and formalize how we greet visitors to Historic St. George’s Episcopal Church and potentially to invite and welcome them into our church family.
Welcome Occasion, to entail
Visitors Book to be signed by visitors.
Visitor Cards to be completed by visitors—by each person where there’s a family visit.
Gift bags for visitors, with one bag per family in cases of family visits. The bag will include a mug, a church brochure, and other relevant items.
A follow-up phone call by an Ambassador to each visitor within 72 hours of the visit. Where visitors are from Long Island or New York City, the Ambassador will encourage them to become part of our church family.
A quarterly service schedule will be maintained, with one Ambassador identified for each 8:00 am service, two for each 10:15 am service, and two for the 9:00 am summer service. Schedules will be modified as needed.
Ambassadors will wear the distinguishing Ambassador Butterfly with their name tags, and these will be left in the Ambassador Program Room after use.
Duties of Ambassadors
Collect your Ambassador Butterfly and name tag before service when you are scheduled (and return same to the Ambassador Project Room afterwards.)
Make a mental or written note of visitors who stand during the Welcome, greet them after service, and have them sign the Visitors Book and complete Visitor Cards, with one by each person where there’s a family.
Retrieve the appropriate number of gift bags from the Ambassador Program Room and give to visitors, with one bag per family in the case of a family visit.
Keep the Visitor Cards and make follow-up calls to visitors within 72 hours of the visit. Thank them for attending service and, if they are from Long Island or New York City, encourage membership in our church. International and out-of-state visitors do not have to be called.
Make a copy of the Visitor Card to keep for follow-up later and return the original to the Ambassador Program Room soon afterwards.
If the visitor does not become a regular attendee within three months of the visit, place a follow-up call to reconnect and encourage church membership.
